The Act seeks to, among others, provide for more clarity on the powers and duties of the Independent Communications Authority (ICASA), its councillors and committees.

It also aims to improve the efficiency of ICASA and conform the ICASA Act more closely to the requirements of the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 (Act No. 1 of 1999).

The Act has been signed into law in terms of Section 84(2) (a) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996.
