Economy, retrenchments impact online jobs

Since the beginning of 2009, CJI has been positioned below the 100 mark since January 2009 and dropped to 62.41 index points in September 2009, due to a further decline in labour demand. Nevertheless, the decreasing trend in labour demand has slowed down significantly since the onset of the second quarter 2009.

The manufacturing, production & trades sector in particular experienced a significant decline in labour demand during September 2009. The latest manufacturing, production & trades report (3rd quarter - 2009), released on 27 October 2009, indicates major skills shortages in various manufacturing, production & trades occupational fields, among others the process & operations management field.

On analysis of various industry sectors in South Africa, building & construction seems to be one of the sectors most affected by the current trend; and with this has shifted from a difficult recruitment environment to an easier recruitment environment, currently owning more than 10 potential career seekers per job advert.

The company will be publishing in-depth job reports for the third quarter of 2009 during October and November 2009 for the following sectors:
