PinkLink breast cancer advocacy group launched
Issued by: Alerting the Media

A new breast cancer advocacy non-profit organisation has been launched in Sandton, focusing expressly on breast cancer and all those South Africans affected by the disease.

Founded by Samantha Galliet, PinkLink was started in order to give patients and people affected by breast cancer a voice. The 31-year-old breast cancer survivor made headlines with her ‘David and Goliath’ battle to get life-saving Herceptin treatment paid for by her medical aid. Members of the PinkLink Board include sexologist, Prof Elna McIntosh, attorney Lisa Metzer, publicist Claire Gardner, and breast cancer survivor Aileen Taylor.

PinkLink recognises that breast cancer affects all South Africans, and also focuses on the need for self-examination and awareness to drive prevention and early detection of this silent epidemic.

The organisation desires a future where the rights of patients and those affected by breast cancer are respected and upheld. They envisage equitable and accessible quality breast cancer treatment for all South Africans.

PinkLink has a specific focus to empower South African women to take charge of their journey with breast cancer through action.

The organisation raises awareness of the issues surrounding women and breast cancer in South Africa and acts as a platform for change.

This process of empowerment was launched at the Hilton Hotel in Sandton and also saw the unveiling of the PinkLink website. It is hoped that the website will be a ‘one stop shop’ for all those affected by breast cancer, with valuable, South African based, information on doctors, treatments, financial considerations and health issues and information.

All South Africans are encouraged to visit www.pinklink.org.za to find out more about PinkLink.
