Fresh Eye attracts fresh directing talent
Issued by: Fresh Eye Film Productions

Fresh Eye Film Productions has attracted a new director to its existing talent pool. Cindy Lee has joined, in her own words, a dependable, professional and creative production house that she believes is the right platform to grow her vision, which is to become one of the top directors in the world. Judging by the string of awards she has won since 1994, there is little to doubt her talent and determination to fulfill this dream.

“At last I found my thing,” says Lee, describing television commercial directing. This was after she tried university study, working as a production secretary on feature films and clocking up many years fulfilling one of her other passions - writing. It was at TBWA Hunt Lascaris back in 1994 where Lee started to build a name as an award-winning copywriter on big brand tv commercials like Standard Bank, Nandos, BMW and City Lodge. Among many Gold and Silver Cannes Lions, her highlight was winning a Loerie Grand Prix, in 2003, for a Mixed Media Campaign for ICC Cricket World Cup.

Her writing career included writing the scripts for an original sitcom -The Book Club - a few episodes of - People of the South, a documentary called - Mother City Sex and a feature film called - If Mandela Was a Taxi Driver.

In 2004, she exchanged her pen for a camera. The first thing she directed was a one-minute film for the Quickies competition. It won best overall film. Next was - Women and Men Against Child abuse. It won a VUKA for best overall PSA. Last year she directed her first film, a one-hour drama for the SABC Heartlines Series. Now her focus is on television commercials.

Asked what the highlight of her exciting career has been so far and she says, “Spending five days on set with the late Anthony Minghella.”

Fresh Eye co-founders Gavin Gillespie and Mario Bozzone are confident Cindy will add a lot of value to the company.
