Director Hylton Tannenbaum ended 2006 with a new Hyundai Tucson TV campaign for The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town). The two commercials have already been airing extensively and are a continuation of the popular 'Pretty But Tough' campaign.
Both commercials feature two pretty models doing pretty tough things. In 'Push Up' the camera starts on a close-up of a gorgeous woman's face entering and exiting frame, as the camera pulls out it becomes apparent that she is doing one armed push ups in a tough industrial environment.
'Scorpion' tells the tale of a beautiful woman sitting outside at night reading a book. Unknown to her a scorpion is menacing its way towards her foot. However, the would-be victim turns predator and squashes the scorpion with her bare foot.
Neither commercial was without technical challenges, but thorough pre-production, tests and planning ensured a smooth shoot - whereby every element was achieved in-camera.
"Owing to the popularity of the original commercial, there were a lot of expectations riding on these new ones, so I knew I had to up my game. Jupiters were very receptive to giving the concept a bit more edge and exploring the various incarnations of what being pretty but tough is all about," says Tannenbaum.
2007 is set to be a productive second year for Bioscope, with a slate of projects already lined up. January will see director Jerome Pikwane finishing off an enchanted commercial for FCB Johannesburg.
