Bitten: Sarah Graham Cooks Cape Town
, the lifestyle, culinary series starring author and blogger, Sarah Graham, was nominated for Best Variety & Lifestyle Show. This recognition follows hot on the heels of the series' recent sale to more than 30 countries internationally. A second season, Sarah Graham Food Safari
, is set to go into production this year and has been pre-sold to Food Network USA for broadcast in October 2014, followed by sales to the rest of the world.
Receiving its second nomination is the hit youth series, Hectic Nine-9
. The daily, live show, now in its ninth season, was nominated for Best Talk Show.
Mpumi Ngidi, SABC commissioning editor said, "The SABC is very proud of the Hn9 brand for successfully and continuously engaging the South African youth. It's very important to us that SA teens continue to own and be resonant with what the show offers. We are honoured by the SAFTA recognition."
Executive director of Production and Development, Louise McClelland
(van Hoff) believes that the nomination has particular significance for the Hn9
team. "They were initially tentative about tackling potentially controversial subjects, especially considering the audience is a young one and that there are many risks involved when taking social and personal issues live, particularly when you are dealing with the youth. This nomination is recognition that Hn9 is achieving what it set out to - to give the young audience a safe platform to voice and discuss issues that affect them on a daily basis.
Both of these nominations are an acknowledgement of the hard work the teams are putting in on a daily basis to develop and produce content of exceptional quality,"
The glittering eighth Annual SAFTA award ceremony will take place on 5 and 6 April in Johannesburg.
