SA June retail trade unchanged y/y

Measured in real terms (constant 2012 prices)‚ retail trade sales remained unchanged between June 2013 and June 2014 after increasing by 2.6% year-on-year in May.

A BDlive median consensus forecast from a survey of seven economists had expected retail sales to increase by 2.1% year on year.

The highest annual growth rate was recorded for retailers in hardware‚ paint and glass (5.2%). The most negative annual growth rate was recorded for retailers in household furniture‚ appliances and equipment (-9.2%).

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales decreased by 0.4% month on month in June 2014 following month-on-month increases of 0.9% in May 2014 and 0.3% in April 2014.

Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales decreased by 0.1% in the second quarter of 2014 compared with the previous quarter.
