    February food, beverage industry income up 6.6%

    Total income generated by the food and beverages industry rose by 6.6% to R3.5bn in February 2014 compared with the same month in 2013‚ supported by a strong growth in income from food and bar sales‚ Statistics SA figures showed on Tuesday, 22 April 2014.

    This increase compares with the revised 5.5% (5.1%) year-on-year increase seen in January.

    Total income increased by 4.0% in the three months ended February 2014 compared with the three months ended February 2013.

    In February 2014‚ the highest annual growth rate was recorded for takeaway and fast-food outlets (10.2% and contributing 3.5 percentage points).

    Positive annual growth rates were recorded for food sales (7.6%) and bar sales (2.4%).
