While sunblock is a very important product to use, especially when you and your staff are exposed to the sun for most of the day, the oiliness of the product can leave bad stains on fabrics, which can be a nightmare to remove.

As you know, it is also important that your staff's uniforms are always in top condition. Many suggestions have been given on how to remove sunscreen stains, which range from household cleaners, baking soda or cornflour to assist in absorbing the excess oils. Hydrochloric acid-based household cleaners can be harsh on fabric, thus one needs to be extra careful. Do not let the product settle on the fabric for too long as it may damage the fabric.

Sunblock stains can be problematic because the oils, colours and ingredients can sometimes appear only once the garment has been washed.

How to remove of sunblock stains the easy way:

  1. Blot the stain with a dry cloth.
  2. Sprinkle baking soda or cornflour, as this will absorb any excess oils.
  3. Leave the clothing item for about 30 minutes.
  4. Brush of excess powder, rub the stain with a washing detergent, and leave to absorb for 5 minutes.
  5. Soak in hot water for 30 minutes (depending on the fabric care instructions).
  6. Rinse well in hot water; making sure all the soap has been properly rinsed off.
  7. For old stubborn stains, drench the stain in a baking soda / water mixture and leave to dry. Brush off the excess powder and launder as usual.

To avoid getting sunscreen stains on your clothing items, allow the sunscreen to dry before dressing up. If you do not have enough time, follow the method stated above and make sure you do not drip oil when enjoying a fun time at the pool or beach.
