Stonewall+ celebrates 10 years of Red Bull Big Wave Africa
Issued by: Stonewall+

The digital marketing agency Stonewall+ recently launched the 10-year anniversary website for Red Bull Big Wave Africa - www.redbullbwa.com.

Stonewall+ has created a website and digital marketing campaign that serves to celebrate the iconic Red Bull big wave surfing event, as part of an ongoing relationship with one of the world's leading lifestyle and consumer brands.

www.redbullbwa.com provides internet fans with an unparalleled first-hand experience of the infamous waves at Dungeons - and the riders who risk life and limb to surf them. It offers an up-to-the-minute low-down on breaking news and event activity and puts internet surfers on the scene with unique live streaming video and event commentary.

The website is a comprehensive resource for big wave enthusiasts locally and internationally, and incorporates the following features:

  • Live event streaming, incorporating water and land camera, as well as instant replays and slow-motion replays
  • Live commentary and scoring - and text commentary for low bandwidth users
  • An innovative interactive ten-year history of the event, presented in the websites design header
  • Surfer profiles
  • Daily Blog and video updates
  • Weather Podcasts
  • Video and Photo Gallery
  • Video features from previous years

“We are honoured to have been part of this event for so long, and are hoping to create a special web experience for the massive number of local and international users who visit the website,” says Ben Wagner, CEO of Stonewall+. “The fact that we're able to stream this event live during winter in Cape Town, from cameras half a kilometre offshore and in huge unrelenting seas is testimony to the great team of specialists we have on board. It also shows the faith that Red Bull has in us and the online medium in committing to this level of online experience,” Wagner continues.

The multi-disciplined team working on the website includes Fixer Films, who are responsible for all the live video footage, and Antfarm, who will be managing the live web streaming. Stonewall+ has also developed a comprehensive digital marketing campaign, which includes rich media placements on local and international surfing websites, together with online marketing on YouTube and the Facebook social network.

The Red Bull BWA event format is unique in that it allows for a contest window period of five weeks, opening on the 24th of July and closing on the 31st of August, which serves as the waiting period for the competition. Once the waves reach contestable size, the contest is held with 24 invited local and international surfers vying for the R300,000.00 total prize purse.
