The death of Media24's Mandy Rossouw has come as a shock to the South African journalism community. Mandy's passing has left a gap in the industry that will not be easily filled. Her enthusiasm, diligence and deep knowledge of her field will remain an example to all journalists.
"The Southern African Freelancers' Association (Safrea) recognises her invaluable contribution to the field of journalism. She was an excellent investigative journalist who will be sorely missed in the media environment," says Helen Ueckermann, Safrea chair.

"Our sincere condolences go out to Mandy's family, friends and colleagues at this sad time."

It is not only sad, but also a tragedy when such young and talented people like Mandy depart from our midst. I first met her at the ANC Conference in Polowane when she was introduced to me by then ANC Deputy Secretary General Sankie Mthembi-Mahanyele and Ferial Haffejee in 2007. I did see her a few times after
that. But I know Mandy through her writings which I followed from my Berlin flat in the ensuing years. The shock is great and it will take some time to come to terms with this horrible disaster. But, I am sure that young Mandy would not approve of us mourning for ever. Das Leben geht weiter.
Hamble Kahle you soldier of the pen. I am sure your death will inspire other youngsters to follow in your foot step.
