The launch of Entrepreneur SA newspaper this week will contribute towards the development of a robust Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME) industry. It has a print order/circulation of 550 000 copies every week and a national distribution footprint that reaches even the smallest town in the country.
Published by Nubia Media and Publishing, a 100% Black owned media company, the entry of Entrepreneur SA into the weekly newspaper market as a national player, marks an important milestone in the economic transformation of the print media, and a significant stride for Black Economic Empowerment.
Central to the growth of the economy is the development of a vibrant Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) sector which, development experts agree, is the key to resolving many societal challenges, including job creation.
The statistics below encapsulate the importance of the more than 1.5 million enterprises constituting the SMME sector, in the general drive to grow the South African economy:
SMMEs represent 97.5% of the total number of business firms in SA.
Contribute 34.8% of the country's GDP.
Employ 55% of the country's labour force.
Contribute 42% of total remuneration.
Conceived by entrepreneurs with a passionate interest in SMME development that spans over 12 years, and three previous attempts in publishing, the founders of Entrepreneur SA have combined a number of and innovative and creative features that they say will make this publication unique in the industry, which include the following:
1. The positioning of the newspaper as a stand-lone Business Supplement in the non-mainstream community newspapers market is the 'first' in the industry, making the newspaper effective in addressing the issues of SMME in an accessible and area-relevant manner.
2. The editorial focus of the paper is developmental, offering readers the 'how to' tools. This is an alternative read compared to the 'news only' style of mainstream weekly business papers.
3. The 100% SMME content of the newspaper will make it a preferred read for established, as well as emerging businesses
4. It addresses issues of economic transformation and Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) in an integrated and holistic manner, and from the perspective of the SMME.
5. The Tender Journal of the newspaper offers the SMME community a reliable and cost effective source of the multi-billion rand procurement information from national, provincial and local government departments, the state owned enterprises, as well as the private sector.
The company has entered into distribution agreements with the Caxton Group and negotiations are underway to clinch similar agreements with other media organisations.
Can you please send us contact numbers of the editor or publicity officer of the newspaper. Morning Edition (etv) would like to schedule an interview with one of them in the first week of the new year.
Thank you

My sources tell me this newspaper isn't printed as often as they claimed it would be and the staff do't get paid. Sound like this day too, hey? Posted on 30 Mar 2005 06:47
There's definitely a market for such publication given the enthusiasm exhibited by South Africans towards entrepreneurship. I say "dig your heels deep", and you shall excel. Posted on 15 Dec 2004 12:45
Could you please forward the contact details of Nubia Media and Publishing to me as I am unable to locate a copy of this newspaper at my local stationary store.
Hi, Looking for an Elaine Fike that I corresponded with years ago regarding Fike genealogy in America. Please contact me if you still have an interest. Posted on 11 Mar 2009 03:10
Congratulations on launching your newspaper. Have not seen a copy yet, but the fact that black people has made this great stride is important. Black emerging businesses now finally have a voice and a newspaper that can reflect their reality from a 100% black perspective. I know how difficult it is to start a newspaper and keep it going. Hope you have the dedication and resilience to make it work, and that in the end the people of this country will benefit from your efforts.
Where can I get a copy of your newspaper, I am based in Cape Town - (021) 426 5203, 082 355 6700.

After searching through the streets of Johannesburg for weeks I cannot find this publication at all. Are we being taken for a ride or does it actually exist? Pray tell . . . And who is behind it anyway? Doesn't sound like there is any media experience at work here at all - let alone the basics of marketing! Posted on 27 Jan 2005 20:29
Story is that these guys don't pay their staff. They pay some of the salary around the 1st or 2nd, then some later. NOT ALL. A whole lot of staff have already left. BEWARE. They just don't pay. And its said that they are opening other businesses with govenment money. SOMEONE SHOULD INVESTIGATE. Posted on 16 Apr 2005 08:09
What a pity the whole focus of entrepreneurship has been spoiled. Doing my Masters on the subject, looks like these guys should read a copy of it when I am done. Posted on 24 Apr 2005 09:47
