Fairlady and M-Net have joined forces to find South Africa's first style apprentice, who stands to win six-month's paid internship with the magazine after battling it out with five other contestants on the MNet Style Apprentice show. The winning candidate will also receive career-boosting accessories such as a new wardrobe, a laptop, a cellphone and all the right accessories.

Entries to the competition open on 9 November 2009 and close on 14 December 2009. From these entries, 20 will be short-listed for a one-on-one interview with the judging panel headed by Fairlady editor, Suzy Brokensha. She will hand-pick her top six interns, who will then battle it out on camera, reality TV-style and broadcast on M-Net Series channel from 26 March. The six finalists will be housed in a stylish Cape Town penthouse for the duration of the production.

Entrants need to be energetic, creative and talented individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who are driven and ambitious, with a strong desire to make it big in the world of fashion and beauty.

“We are a proudly Afro optimist magazine and we thought this was a really great way to combine print and TV to showcase our local talent and offer the winner a great career opportunity at the same time” says Brokensha.

Entries must be submitted to the website, www.fairlady.com.

Running in Heels?-
Is this not an exact copy of the Running in Heels show which has interns battling it out at the Marie Claire offices in New york? Original much? Posted on 4 Nov 2009 09:09
Bored
Running in heels cont-
Sounds pretty much the same. Interns bitching and moaning, editor sternly telling them what not to do, sympathetic staffers trying to give them the odd break, functions and events, interns fighting and competing, killer heels, tight clothes, make-up, bla-h-blah-blah Posted on 4 Nov 2009 13:35
Blah de blah
A challenge-
Then don't watch it. Posted on 5 Nov 2009 09:38
Perhaps lose the heels...-
...if the competition is for a stylists job! All that running around sourcing props, I should imagine your Converses would be more appropriate! Even if it is a copycat the concept sounds like it could be educational as well as entertaining, an excellent showcase for ZA creativity and great ad vehicle - I look forward to it! Curious
Pretty cool-
Even if it's a similar idea to Running in Heels, I still think it will be pretty cool to see a South African version. I'll be very interested to see how it turns out. Posted on 4 Nov 2009 14:27
Ubuntuless
UnFair-
Since WHEN has the Fairer Lady been 'Afro optimist?' as Suzy Brokensha put it? I've never seen anyone on the cover that the world could easily identify as 'African'. Sure you put South Africans on the cover now and then, but they always tend to be 'fair' ladies dont they? please give us a break you copycats!!! Posted on 4 Nov 2009 15:15
When?-
When is being optimistic about South Africa going to move beyond the colour of skin, or the cover of a magazine? Your statement is so sad. I applaud any attempt to get new and colourful talent into an industry that is so difficult to break into and that in a country that has so many disillusioned youth who can't find jobs. At least Fair Lady has the balls. What have you done? Posted on 5 Nov 2009 09:36
