Monitoring SA (MSA) is taking flight once again with Cape Mental Health, having committed to handling all media monitoring for the non-profit organisation's hugely popular Cape Town International Kite Festival in October 2008.
Ingrid Daniels, Director of Cape Mental Health says that because of its visual appeal the Cape Town International Kite Festival can generate huge media exposure. “We are hoping to secure over R1million of publicity. Our challenge is to ensure this coverage not only promotes a fantastic family event, but also positions mental health in a positive way.
“By filling the sky with kites we hope to make the world a nicer place, not only for the visitors to the Festival, but also for the thousands of people with mental disabilities who benefit from our services every year. For people with intellectual or psychiatric disabilities, it's all about being included rather than being overlooked, underestimated, and discriminated against. It's about the freedom to fly ‘up, up and away' - and to reach heights that previously seemed unachievable.
“With Monitoring SA's support we will be able to measure what is achieved, assess how the media incorporate the mental health message and show sponsors the value of their investment. We are extremely grateful to Monitoring SA for committing their expertise once again.”
Monitoring SA first took on the Cape Town International Kite Festival's account pro-bono in 2007. “We are absolutely delighted to be involved with Cape Mental Health again,” said Anri Schwim, Director and Chief Operation Officer at MSA. “By helping accurately monitor coverage we will enable the organisation to analyse the impact of the event, as well as strengthen relationships with sponsors.”
The Cape Town International Festival attracts in the region of 20,000 visitors each year, making it one of Cape Town's most popular events. This year professional kiters from China, Europe and the USA will be in attendance, along with their amazing kite creations. There will also be kite-making workshops, an Edu-Kite Schools' competition, the Healthy Mind, Body and Soul Expo, food stalls, live entertainment and Heart 104.9FM broadcasting live on both days; plenty to attract and entertain the whole family.
Entry is R10 per adult and R5 per child, with all proceeds going to support the work of Cape Mental Health. The Festival will be open from 10h00 until 18h00 each day and takes place on the lawns surrounding beautiful Zandvlei in Muizenberg. There is lots of free parking and easy access by train.
