Powerade Lost City Cycle Classic in aid of CANSA
Issued by: CANSA

This year's road race will be held on Saturday 23 August 2008 at Sun City. As always, entry to Sun City is free for all participants, family members and spectators provided you are through the gates by 06:30. Entries will be limited to 4500 again.

All cyclists and their families will also receive free entrance to the Valley of Waves on race day between 11:00 and 14:00.

This year is the race's 11th birthday and an amount of more than R2,000,000.00 has been raised for CANSA since the beginning of this event.

Children can take part in the Bibo Tricycle/walk/run experience with fabulous goodies for the participants, as well as special medals and a lucky draw at the finish. Bibo characters and Toktokkie will be entertaining the kids. Remember you can enter your budding young cyclist on the race day.

Safety of the cyclists is once again going to be the number one priority of the organizers. The organisers have arranged for medical stations on route, a disaster bus, helicopter to airlift any serious casualty, first aid kits at all water points, medical station with doctor and six ambulances at the start/finish point. There will also be security provided by Sun International on route and 250 marshals and support team members, including 25 motorcycle marshals, physiotherapists at two points, as well as traffic officers will oversee the safety of the cyclists.

During last years' race casualties were only three (non-serious) casualties on the road, due to the good organisation of the route, marshals and medical personnel. Because of the fact that there are no alternative routes for the local population to use, the road cannot be closed but the organisers moved the event to a quieter weekend when there are a lot less traffic on this route.

Kiddies ride was a huge success last year and this year we will build on the successful recipe of having a crèche next to the VIP area where participants and spectators' children can be looked after and entertained in a secure environment.

This will be the second year that the SUBARU Lost City Mountain bike challenge is added to the weekend's events in aid of CANSA. The event will take place on Sunday 24 August at 07:00.

This mountain bike event is proving to be hugely popular among mountain biking enthusiasts and we are looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Subaru and Lost City in building this event to equal the success of its road race counterpart. There will be three water points on the route. Entries are limited to 1500, with 60 marshals enroute. Free entry to the Valley of Waves for cyclists. Easy 25km route and a more technical 50km route. Crèche will available for kiddies again, as well as VIP area.

After both days' events, there will be entertainment in the Valley of Waves.

Sporting celebrities will be joining us for the weekend and a very interesting challenge will be issued at this year's launch.

All proceeds from this event will go towards CANSA Services in North West.

For any queries on the kiddies' race please contact: Thea Venter 084 602 1587 or Lorinda Burger at CANSA 014-533-0694.
