The SABC Board, led by Dr Ben Ngubane, unveiled the organisation's 2010 FIFA World Cup broadcast plan and corporate plan in Parliament today, Friday, 19 March 2010.
The corporation's 2010 FIFA World Cup broadcast plan aims to afford all South African households an opportunity view and listen to the world's biggest soccer tournament. The SABC will broadcast all 64 games live across all three TV channels and 18 radio stations, in all the 11 official languages.

"For the first time in the SABC's broadcasting history, during the broadcast of the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament, the SABC will have a simulcast broadcast on radio and TV. Essentially this means that the live pictures on our television will match the live commentary on all radio stations" said SABC group CEO Solly Mokoetle.

Exclusive rights

The corporation recently acquired a fleet of five HD-ready state-of-the-art OB vans, which it is hoped will ensure that the SABC offers truly world-class coverage of the tournament. The vans have already been tested during the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Being the official broadcaster of the tournament, the SABC has exclusive rights to provide broadcast signal to all official FIFA Fan Fests and public viewing areas.

The SABC, will through its broadcast network (three TV channels and 18 radio stations) offer various programming around the World Cup beyond match coverage. These programmes will be anchored by corporation's team of local, continental and international on-air personalities, and will be unveiled in the near future. TV coverage of the World Cup will total 250 hours.

SABC - World Cup broadcasts plan-
It is not true what the CEO is saying about the firts simulcast broadcast in SABC broadcast history- During the late 1980 it was used extensively to cut costs in travel and to broaden the viewership. This was sone on all the major events such as comrades , Million dollar golf , rugby atletics etc. Mr Mokoetle get your facts / ducks in a row Posted on 25 Mar 2010 07:55

Delayed live-
Are they going to use their new technology "delayed live"? How on earth are they going to show the games live on only 3 channels as well as cater for none soccer fans who want to be entertained by other programs and sport? Thank god I've got DSTV super sport. Posted on 25 Mar 2010 14:15

Lies Lies Lies!-
Ukhozi and all the other stations broadcast live matches that match TV imagery all the time. It did not stop in the 80s. Posted on 25 Mar 2010 14:28
