The 2010 National Communication Partnership (NCP) will host the launch of the ‘Football Friday' initiative at SAFA House in Johannesburg, at noon on Friday, 4 September 2009. Football Friday aims to encourage South Africans to wear the jersey of the national football team, Bafana Bafana, every Friday until the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Coinciding with and supporting national Casual Day, it will be collectively launched by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), International Marketing Council (IMC), the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee South Africa (OC), South African Tourism (SAT), and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), under the banner of the national Fly the Flag Campaign.
The campaign seeks to popularise the mobilising elements the NCP has been promoting, including encouraging South Africans to fly the South African flag at every opportunity, to learn to sing the national anthem and support the national team Bafana Bafana and the tournament by wearing their national team and football jerseys.
Really a great Idea - Football Friday. I have started a project for the Hospitality sector named as in the heading. Our website is map based and shows the location of Hotels, Bed & Breatfast establishments, Lodges and places which are geared up for welcoming 2010 fans to South Africa, Pre- and Post-event included. How it works is that establishments display a banner to the entrance of their property to mark their participation in the 2010 Flag Project. Thus the 'football' tourist can physically see the establishment 'on the road' once they have identified where they wish to visit, or stay, from the map. 'Flags' are printed either generically, or branded with the establishments' logo, once they join the project and delivered for immeadiate display. Posted on 11 Sep 2009 09:11
