2010 magazine show for SABC1

SABC1 is launching a prime-time magazine show, Countdown 2010, in June 2008 which aims to keep mzansi viewers fully informed and involved in the preparation for the largest sports event ever held in the African continent.
“The channel is proud to present a show that will not only serve to inform television viewers in Mzansi about the countdown towards the historic hosting of the biggest international event in the world, but will also encourage them to actively participate and take ownership of it,” says Phuthi Moloto, SABC1's brand manager.

The public appetite for the latest news continues to grow across the country, and Countdown 2010 is a one-stop shop to meet this demand. The show intends to supply viewers with an informed, lively update on issues ranging from the progress of the stadium construction programme, through security, marketing, IT and all other work streams to ways in which people can participate in business opportunities related to the tournament.

Talent Attack, an emerging production company in Johannesburg, has been selected to deliver the programme and, working closely with FIFA and the Local Organising Committee (LOC), aims to provide all South Africans with a front row seat all the way to 2010.

Countdown 2010 will be hosted by actor and presenter Fezile Makhanya, comedian Eugene Khoza and the glamorous presenter, voice-over artist, scriptwriter and producer, Lebo Motsoeli.

The show begins broadcasting from Tuesday 10 June at 6.30pm.

Great idea-
I hope that the show will bring positive, detailed and interesting information. We really need show to look forward to on tv ...will keep an eye on it. One thing that never changes though is keeping the same old faces on our tv screens...i am sure that the country has a lot of potential presenters who are just waiting for such breaks..otherwise all the best! Long overdue-
Finally someone has caught a wake up at SABC, this show should have started about a year ago, but its better late than never. Posted on 29 May 2008 14:19

Yeah..great idea-
I hope this show will help people identify opportunities that 2010 bring. People always say South Africa is full of opportunities but some of us can't see gold... that's because we are taught to get a job and not create one.

Looking forward to being inspired. Posted on 29 May 2008 15:53

exciting!-
great idea...just wish we didn't have to recycle presenters when there are so many other trained individuals who are knocking on doors for great oppurtunities like this one.

It is still cheap-
2010 is here in South Africa and to my understanding SABC will be having an upper hand on broadcasting this event. well starting a magazine on SABC1 is still cheap, we deserve more than this, if SABC want to be world class they must act world class, they must atleast form a sport channel even though it will not run 24hrs but at least they will be able to bring us information without delay or being inconvinced. Everytime i watch soccer on SABC i feel pity for them and i start asking myself who is responsible in running things there? even an important Bafana game, broadcast only start 30min before the game and end 15min after the game because of maybe congession of programmes. i was so dissapointed when i watch a bafana equtorial gunea game, what a poor commentatory as well an overall march couvarage you barrerly can identify a player running in a shade. I am still saying so long SABC doesnt improve its standard when it comes to soccer they will keep on losing viwers to Multichoice. Posted on 8 Jun 2008 13:47
