High tech for a low tech environment: Omesan's app can change lives - SABS Design Institute
Omesan is developing a cellphone app that enables health workers who do not have easy access to laboratories to take a photograph of body fluids and have it analysed via the app.

Here are some questions for this bright young innovator:

What gives you hope?

My work with Teachout @teachoutUCT, that inspires learners to grow out of their disadvantaged situations through education and support.

What makes you angry?

Sarcasm, ain't nobody got time for that. #Hashtag overdoses aka weapons of mass expression.

Who are you? What is your story?

I'm a PhD candidate of the UCT medical school and love efficient use of technology to improve quality of people's lives. I would love to see more use of innovations (particularly mobile) in the medical and research fields.

What are working on with SABS Design Institute?

I'm working on bridging the gap between the laboratories and hospitals by using an innovative technology to improve the test turnaround times for quicker more efficient treatments.

What is your favourite invention, design or piece of tech?

Google glass. I'm more and more convinced that this piece of tech can be revolutionary, particularly with unique potential uses in the medical fields.

What would be your ultimate invention/design?

Time Travel. I would love to go forward and backward to visit with myself.

What are some things that you can't leave home without?

iPhone is essential, with a data package as life is so sad without a data connection. :)

What are you really bad at?

Flappy Bird.

What are your superpowers?

I can aliquot like a boss, otherwise I wish I could teleport (my next innovation!).

Words to live by?

"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough."

Apple, Android or Blackberry?

Apple totally.
