Marketing and communications consultancy, Interactive Africa (Resfest, Hip2B², Vodaworld, Madam & Eve) has selected Wicked Pixels as their design and animation partner for the 10th annual Design Indaba, South Africa’s premier international design event.
“It’s fitting that the greatest creative event in the country would partner with the top design/animation studio to supply its motion graphic needs. So we are delighted to have been selected based on the freshness and creative quality of our work,” says Andrew Shaw, Creative Director at Wicked.
Ravi Naidoo, founder and MD of Interactive Africa, explains their decision, “We chose Wicked Pixels for a few reasons: animation as a genre is growing in South Africa, and we wanted to showcase it at Design Indaba, and we were blown away by the enthusiasm and creative recommendations of the team!”
And Wicked will be in good company too, with this year’s international line-up of guest speakers including legends like, Brian Eno, Neville Brody, Daljit Singh, Jaime Hayon and our own Zapiro, to name but a few.
Wicked Pixels are creating 3D animated motion graphic design sequences that work in context with the Indaba’s print and poster campaign. These will be integrated into the main stage design via huge plasma screens, as well being visible on monitors in and around the event. Although a functional part of the branding (e.g. title design to introduce each guest speaker), the sequences have been designed to work as stand-alone digital art installations.
This 10th Design Indaba is going to be really special, with many surprises, make sure you’re going this February, visit; http://www.designindaba.com
Capitec Bank
BBDO Cape Town, partnered with the Wicked team to design and animate 7 motion graphic commercials for the retail bank’s first foray into TV advertising. In addition, the team also created the end title and logo sequence for the corporate commercial, shot by Keith Rose. Once production had commenced, BBDO were really happy with what they were seeing and further requested Wicked Pixels to create all the graphics for the print campaign.
Jaques Maree of BBDO adds, "Considering the complexity of the entire campaign, our work with Wicked Pixels was like the eye of a pretty hectic storm. While all the other elements often seemed to teeter on the brink of chaos, the 7 animated TV spots were a breeze. We never had to worry about what (or when) WP could deliver. We were sold on their capabilities right from the very first meeting and our client loved the work from the first presentation. They’ll most likely be the first name down when the follow-up campaign comes around."
"The agency team of Ivan Johnson, Julie Thorogood, Jacques Maree, with producer Kim-Lara King were such a pleasure to work with,” explains Craig Wessels, ECD at Wicked Pixels. “The project went out to pitch and our creative treatment was apparently right on the nail’s head, so we were given the job – along with vast amounts of trust and creative freedom. It was also cool for our team to have a guru like Mike Schalit come and pay a visit to the studio during the approval stage. From start to finish this was an incredibly smooth and rewarding experience, to the credit of BBDO.”
Musica
The Jupiter Drawing Room recently teamed up with Wicked to create a new Musica spot, “New Arrivals”. Wicked’s unique Flash animation and illustration talent added some flair to the animated spot, for artists Gwen Stefani and Akon. The spot features Akon and Gwen-looking stalks delivering the artist’s new CD’s to a Musica store. If it all sounds pretty odd, it is; but hey, it’s Musica and it works.
