As JWT celebrates its 150th anniversary this year around the globe, JWT Cape Town has one more reason to commemorate 2014 as a special year in the agency's history. Since 1928 JWT has been supporting clients' brands and businesses in South Africa, and recently, the Cape Town team moved into a brand new home in the bustling Cape Quarter Lifestyle Centre in De Waterkant, Greenpoint.
"It's a move that is in keeping with the agency's continued evolution," says Managing Partner, Willem Van Der Merwe.
He explains, "In a world of truly integrated communications that provide business solutions to clients' problems, there is no room for a silo approach to planning and campaign development. Our new office space was designed specifically to integrate and optimise our various specialist functions to ultimately create pioneering content for our clients' brands."
A local interior design company, Salt & Pepper Design, was challenged with the task of drawing upon the abundance of South African talent when developing the new space, in keeping with JWT Cape Town's vision of celebrating the country's indigenous design and craftsmanship skills.
"All the interior design elements - from boardroom tables by Gregor Jenkin, to feature lights by David Krynauw, or seating by Wiid Design and graphiti by Atang - were crafted by talented local designers" said Belinda Mallitte of S&P Design, adding "The brief was to keep the interior light and calm, muted in tone and texture, establishing an environment where creativity can take centre-stage, infused by the city and tremendous culture surrounding it."
Jonathan Lang, executive creative director at JWT Cape Town commented, "When you work in a creative industry it's not a 9-5 job, and yet we have to understand all the nuances in the consumer lifestyles of our clients' brands. So it was important for us to create and support a culture where delivering the work and experiencing life can merge as one. That's why it was critical that we reflected this in both the location and design of the space we moved into. Being in the Cape Quarter gives us access to the fantastic opportunities Cape Town offers. The agency has a panoramic view of Signal Hill, Lions Head, Table Mountain and Devils Peak. We have carefully considered breakaway areas for meetings and brainstorming sessions both inside and outside on our garden balcony, as well. It's a design approach that allows people to innovate and ideas to be liberated."
