Slim's imagination runs wild

Egg Films' director Slim is behind two of the most entertaining spots on South African screens at the moment: the magical realist Standard Bank ad and the Act II Popcorn action film.

Standard Bank's new app aims to put childlike joy back into managing your finances, so TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris' launch commercial uses a girl's journey to an inner-city ATM to recreate that 80's sense that technology is magical.

In keeping with the 80's styling, Slim and his talented art department created 90% of the girl's imagination in camera, with Sinister Studios handling the rest in post.

For Volcano's Act II spot, Slim created a cops and mobsters chase sequence that our protagonist happens to be in the middle of, a twist to show that the pre-packed popcorn is not just for movies anymore.

Lead actor Regan Ross did all his own stunts, including an eight-meter jump seven floors up with the stunt and rigging team from Neill Blomkamp's Chappie.
