Lifestyle SA Festival - Celebrating Black, is all grown up
Issued by: Lifestyle SA Festival

It's all systems go for the much anticipated debut of the Johannesburg leg of the Lifestyle SA Festival - Celebrating Black at Gallagher Estate from the 17-18 May 2008. The festival recently scooped an exclusive media partnership with national newspaper giant City Press, making it the premier social event for anyone with an appetite for an Afropolitan lifestyle.

“City Press is proud to be associated with the Lifestyle SA Festival, says Siphokazi Mabo, City Press Brand Manager. We support Human Element for pioneering an event that celebrates black achievement and creates a platform where the much talked about, fast growing Black Middle class can attain holistic personal growth, as well as sustain financial success. With over 2, 6 million readers every Sunday, City Press is committed to providing an intellectual and informative read to this dynamic urban population”.

The newest edition to South Africa's annual social calendar was conceptualised by three young ambitious entrepreneurs, Shiru Githiomi, Zukisa Hani and Zuki Mzozoyana. Their aim is to provide visitors with a tangible and exciting representation of the sights that capture the essence of the quintessential Afropolitan lifestyle, while encouraging consumers to accumulate real wealth and build legacies that could be passed on to the next generation.

The festival has succeeded in attracting significant sponsorship from premium brands such as Lexus and Johnnie Walker Black and media partners, SABC, Metro FM and City Press.

Jerry Mpufane, Group Marketing Director for the SABC says the Lifestyle SA Festival is in line with SABC's organizational values of creating conversations, restoration of human dignity and building a common future. “The SABC is committed to a variety of cultural expressions and traditions to enhance and build a common future amongst its citizens. Embracing and supporting local creative excellence in all aspects of South African lifestyle be it music, fashion or the arts, the national public broadcaster welcomes the opportunity to partner with such events.”

Metro FM Station Manager Matona Sakupwanya is excited about the opportunity to celebrate and promote cosmopolitan South African culture. “We at Metro FM are proud of who we are as Africans, and of how our Afropolitan lifestyle is an eclectic and ever-evolving mix of Western and indigenous influences, she said. This dynamism is something to be celebrated and we believe that the Lifestyle SA Festival is an ideal platform for saying to urban South Africans: you are beautiful, hip and happening and the world's eyes are upon you as the trend-setters of the moment.”

The festival incorporates a sophisticated, slick, high energy lifestyle experience that includes lively interactive panel discussions hosted by personal branding philosopher, Timothy Maurice Webster, entrepreneur and Apprentice SA runner up Richard Ndlela, internationally acclaimed motivational speaker Vusi Thembekwayo and property expert Neal Peterson.

A significant aspect of the festival is Engendering Wealthy Minds. This ambitious education drive is supported by Old Mutual, First National Bank and Bond Choice. These charismatic blue chip brands have thrown their weight behind this project and will be hosting an array of serious but entertaining money games and wealth related conversations.

The lifestyle elements of the festival are supported by Johnnie Walker Black, Plascon Paints, Black Up cosmetics, Mens' Health, Best Life and Afropolitan Magazines. Exclusive Books' Home Bru will also be lending its support through South Africa - Telling Her Own Story sessions.

As a forum that celebrates local talent in music, fashion and the arts, the festival's entertainment line up includes local heavy weights in the industry like Ringo Madlingozi, Siphokazi, HHP and Thandiswa Mazwai.

Jazz lovers also have the opportunity to enjoy jazz evenings with Jimmy Dludlu, Lira and Metro FM DJs. Kings of comedy and award wining Loyiso Gala, Trevor Noah and rising star Tumi Morake will be the main anchors of the comedy sessions. The fashion component of the festival features cutting edge local fashion with an emphasis on real bodies and celebrating curves and will feature collections from Bongiwe Walaza, Mzansi Designers, Ottimo designs, Vukani Fashions and Inspired trends amongst others.
