Kaelo Worldwide Media, owners of the successful Corporate Social Investment platform Kaelo - Stories of Hope, together with Business Day will launch a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) conference in June that will bring a broad base of thought leaders to Africa and provide a platform for collaboration among CSR practitioners and business leaders.
Brought to you by Absa and the Industrial Development Corporation in association with the Department of Social Development and the University of Pretoria GIBS' Colloquium for Social Entrepreneurs, the two and a half day conference will take place in Cape Town (2-4 June 2008) just before the start of the World Economic Forum on Africa, offering delegates local and international speakers, panel discussions and breakaway sessions comprising customised modules for nongovernmental organisations, CSR professionals and CEOs.
“The conference has been deliberately scheduled for this date as we believe that challenges addressed during the World Economic Forum have a direct impact on many of the issues the Kaelo CSR Conference will cover and we hope to draw delegates from the Forum to speak at the conference as well as attend,” says Sandile Koza, managing director of Kaelo Worldwide Media.
Unique CSR issues and concerns within the developing world will be explored in interactive sessions with the diverse local and international audience. Key addresses will cover innovations and trends within CSR, strategic public-private collaboration and implementation of corporate social investment (CSI) within the African development landscape.
Koza believes the stage is now set for Africa to develop region-specific CSR principles and practices. “We are extremely excited to launch this initiative here because there are very few public networking opportunities for the CSR sector, government and nongovernmental organisations. Though CSR is a business imperative for companies operating in SA, many experts agree that the business of CSR would be better served under a new paradigm of tailored, integrated and collaborative efforts. We hope by hosting this conference we will contribute towards this paradigm shift.”
