    New board members elected to WAN-IFRA

    PARIS, FRANCE / BERLIN, DARMSTADT, GERMANY: Newspaper executives from five countries were elected Sunday to the Board of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) during the organisation's Annual General Meeting in Berlin, Germany.
    New board members elected to WAN-IFRA

    The WAN-IFRA Annual General Meeting, taking place on the eve of the World Publishing Expo, elected: Daniel Dessein, Director of La Gaceta in Argentina, representing the Argentine newspaper association ADEPA; Kojiro Shiraishi, Director & Managing Editor of The Yomiuri Shimbun, representing the Japanese Newspaper Association, NSK; Stig Finslo, Senior Vice President for publishing, external communications and human resources at Amedia in Norway, representing the Norwegian Media Businesses' Association, MBL; Olivier Derville, Purchasing Director and Board Member of Les Papiers de Presse in France; and Malte von Throta, Chief Financial Officer of Styria Media Group in Austria.

    Seventy-five other newspaper executives representing newspapers and media associations in 67 countries were re-elected to the Board. The full list of Board members can be found at http://www.wan-ifra.org/board-members

    Tore Stangbye, CEO of Norway-based Berner Gruppen, was re-elected as Treasurer of the organisation.

    Daniel Dessein, who comes from a long family tradition of journalism and defending press freedom, is director of the primary daily morning paper of Tucumán Province in northern Argentina, known for its political, social and cultural coverage.

    Kojiro Shiraishi is Director & Managing Editor of The Yomiuri Shimbun, the largest daily newspaper in the world, with nearly 10 million circulation. Shiraishi, who joined the newspaper in 1969, is also owner of the Yomiuri Giants baseball team.

    Stig Finslo, who joined Amedia in 2012, had previously been director of Edda Media. He has also worked for Orkla Media and the Association of Norwegian Editors.

    Olivier Derville joined Papiers de Presse in March 2012. The organisation provides a single buying structure for paper for publishers and printers.

    In addition to being Chief Financial Officer, Malte von Throta has been a Board member of Styria Media Group since December 2011. He was previously served as Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of the German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

    Some 8,000 visitors are expected attend the World Publishing Expo in Berlin this week, the largest global trade fair for newspapers and news publishing organised by WAN-IFRA.
